2014-saleen-351-mustang-convertible_1004

"Last week Saleen Automotiveicon1.png announced it had finalized the merger of the original Saleen Autosport with founder Steve Saleen’s more recent SMS Signature Cars project. The company also revealed that it was sitting on a pile of $3 million in fresh investment.

Part of that investment, Saleen said, would go to fund the development of a new generation of supercars as well as electriccarsicon1.png.

While it’s great to see Saleen diversifying into more segments, we’re also glad the company hasn’t forgotten its roots. In a follow-up announcement, Saleen revealed that production of a new generation of its flagship 351 Mustang had begun at its plant in Corona, California.

First announced at the 2011 Los AngelesAutoicon1.png Show and then previewed in prototype form at April’s Fabulous Fords event held in Buena Park, California, the latest Saleen 351 Mustang looks to live up to the reputation of its predecessors: delivering extreme performance.

The latest 2014 Saleen 351 Mustang is Saleen’s most extreme Mustang to date, in fact. In keeping with its name, the vehicleicon1.pngfeatures a 5.75-liter (351-cubic inch) V-8, which is supercharged to the tune of 700 horsepower and 655 pound-feet of torque.

An intercooler and high-flow fuel injectors make sure the engine runs fine, and a number of forged internals should mean longevity. A six-speed manual is standard and is fitted with a high-performance clutch and lightweight flywheel. The final gear ratio is 3.73:1.

To ensure the car handles well, a custom suspension setup is installed, along with 20-inch wheels, 14-inch brakes with four-piston calipers, and a downforce-generating body kit.

The interior also receives a number of special elements including two-tone leather and Alcantara trim, Saleen door sills and a serialized dash plaque.

All this can be yours for a very reasonable $82,634. Saleen also provides a 3 year/36,000 mile limited warranty on all its products."

Power plant sounds like it'll be impressive. Not sure about the 3.73s with that power though. Not digging the 20s, the tonneau or the price. Love the color!

For that kind of money I'd get a Boss, mod it and have more car for less money.

with 655 lbs. of torque I sincerely doubt that Saleen would use a Coyote based engine, perhaps an Aluminator?

Aluminators are Coyote engines. I meant are they stroked 5.0 engines or 5.8 Trinity engines.

I think you nailed it. It has an 80's body kit vibe to me. Too much of a cheap aftermarket bodykit look.

Sorry Saleen. I think you're going down the wrong road again. The price is too high and...electric? Really?

With only 3 million? LOL

Haha I was thinking the same thing. I don't understand the whole electric car movement anyway, where do people think the electricity comes from?

Coal from WV, KY...etc. I find it amusing. Some think electricity comes from "the wall outlet".

The most efficient would be hydro and geothermal. Windmills...they break. Solar panels....they break and take up the enviornment. The contractor that just installed a lot of solar panels on Ft. Know is going bankrupt...fishy to say the least. Who fixes it when they break? The new contractor with their NEW panels I bet.

Exactly. The Aluminator has the fully forged bottom end stuffed into a regular Coyote. The Roadrunner is a Coyote with stronger internals(not as strong as the Aluminator) plus ported heads and hotter cams. The Aluminator XS has the best of both.

People keep saying the Roadrunner engine has a fully forged bottom end which is untrue, they use sinter-forged rods just like the standard Coyote engine but are a little beefier.

trinity? what engine is that?

The Shelby GT500 5.8 Supercharged engine is code-named Trinity.

For the most part, Grimace covered the differences. The heads are also a different alloy altogether than the Coyote heads'.

This article explains the differences in pretty good detail

http://www.mustang50...02/viewall.html

I'll look in the book that came with my owners packet and see if I can find a better breakdown.
